Challenge Your Teen’s Basic Knowledge (part III-car washing)

With the beautiful weather these last few days, it caused me to wash my car. Does your teen know how to wash a vehicle? (Notice I didn’t ask if they wash the car! )

It never ceases to amaze me how much teenagers love to drive. They love to talk about driving. They love to talk car names, colors, and styles. They love to drive different models … the shinier and sleeker, the better. (Guess we were like that in our youth too.) And most give the vehicle they drive the most, a name. (My daughter called her truck “Abby-Bear”, her new Hyundai is “Haleigh” and friend Jessie calls her Honda, “Holly”)

Car Care??
Car Care??

But, keeping a clean vehicle doesn’t seem to be in the mix of interest or action.

Look inside … SCARY STUFF? (especially if this car is “theirs”) Let me guess, you see a bag from the local fast food drive-thru, socks, random paper, a pair of flip-flops, a piece of sporting equipment, cell phone cord(s), and there is a layer of dust on the dashboard. How smeary are the windows?  STOP … don’t tell me your car looks the same. (LOL)

Now … let’s imagine that either they want to clean the car OR you are making them wash it … do they know how?

Seems like this is a simple request, but recently a friend told me that she caught a 17-year old washing the bottom first and confessing that he never washed a car himself. She had to explain the “rinse, wash, rinse” process and told him to start with the roof so the dirt didn’t run down on top of an already clean area.

May seem like a simple task, but until we ask and make sure they know … we can’t assume they know so share the chore this weekend and wash some cars!

Make the most of your day!
