Marriage is Work

On Real Talk today, the panel discussed marriage instead of parenting and unanimously decided marriage is work! And I added, “It should be.”

As adults, we put a lot of effort and time into maintaining positive relationships with our friends and extended family. We give large amounts of kind words, thoughtfulness, understanding, and positive affirmation to others. We serve others and give support regularly,  but we don’t always treat our spouse or significant other the same respect and attention to detail. Why?

Whether we just have no energy left for our spouse or believe they love us “unconditionally” so it doesn’t matter, the result is unfair. Working on the relationship you have with your spouse needs to be of utmost importance. (Now, that is not to say I am not guilty of taking my hubby for grated, but this topic is a good reminder for us all, me included).

Taking time to care and show it daily is something to strive for as it lays a foundation for all that is good for ourselves and our families so I encourage us all to do more of it. Just remember to put a little sweet,

chocolate covered strawberries on your daily marriage cake and see what fun it can bring.

Make the most of your day!
